The Centre's Mission:To enhance student learning in Ontario by significantly advancing the effectiveness of Ontario's School Council system. This section is for Superintendents, Trustees and Board Staff interested in developing School Councils to their full potential. School Councils are comprised of a unique mix of educators, staff volunteers, parent and community volunteers - that require more than goodwill and good intentions to operate effectively. The Ontario School Council Support Centre is designed to support Principals, Chairpersons and individual council members on a widely available and 'self serve' basis. The Centre is committed to providing information to enable Council members to 'help themselves' to a higher level of effectiveness by remaining focused on student learning at all times. The Centre welcomes your inquiries or comments to become an increasingly useful tool over time. The Centre also invites you to link the Support Centre to Board websites for School Councils. Resources will be added to this page to keep you informed of developments and the latest research. Please drop back from time to time. In the meantime, please visit the links page for materials available now. The creation of this Centre was based on the research and recommendations contained within the following paper: Ontario's School Councils: Leading Them Forward to Have an Impact on Student Learning This was presented at the 14th International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement in Toronto in January 2001.
