The Eight Types of Involvement Framework

A framework was developed in 2000 to define the eight types of parental and community involvement relevant for Ontario.

This work extends the work of Dr. Joyce Epstein who operates the National Network of Partnership Schools - by adding two distinct types of involvement to her Six Types of Involvement Framework.

These include Fundraising and Organizing/Attending Social Events - two types of involvement that parents and parent groups have traditionally taken some responsibility for.

These kinds of activities were embedded within Epstein's Six Types of Involvement framework - but experience within the Ontario context demonstrated a need to identify them separately for parents to validate the traditional work of parents' groups, and provide a starting point for accepting the balance of the key concepts within the framework.
