Thank you for volunteering to be the Community Representative on your local School Council. You play a unique role. You have the ability to see things from a different perspective than the educators and parents that make up most of the council. In your position, you are readily able to see whether issues being discussed have the potential to impact student learning or not. If not, you have a responsibility to remind the group that the focus of School Councils is to improve student learning - and get them back on track. Over the next 18 months, resources will be added to this page for your benefit - to assist you in keeping the council focused on student learning - and to provide you will an understanding of the key methods for building strong school/family and community partnerships. In the meantime, check out the National Network of Partnership Schools, and specifically, the area entitled Collaborating with the Community. Also, check out the Parents page with the kinds of parental involvement that make a difference in student learning. There are a few other links available that you might find interesting. Check back again, and often - there will be more information posted here for you.
