Thank you for volunteering to represent your school staff on the School Council. You play a very key role on the council. Not only do you represent the perspectives of the staff in advising the Principal on a range of issues, you also play a key role in breaking down some of the traditional barriers that exist between parents and teachers. In doing so, you are one of the key people working towards a higher level of partnership between parents and teachers - and toward a common goal - improved student learning. With guidance, a School Council can become focused on issues that will impact student learning. Without guidance, the council can become a group of people looking for something to do - and becoming involved in issues that either have little impact on student learning, or that they should not be involved in. As one of the professional educators on the council, you share some of the responsibility for keeping the group focused on issues that matter. To view the Eight Types of Involvement framework, summarizing effective ways for parents to be involved with the school, please click here. Over time, this page will be expanded to provide you with some resources unique to the role you play. Please drop back from time to time. In the meantime, please visit the links page for resources on involving parents in education. One of the highly recommended links for educators is the National Network of Partnership Schools |
