December 1, 2005 Update
December 1, 2005 - The Minister of Education Gerard Kennedy
announced a new provincial Parent Involvement Policy for Ontario and new
financial support at the school, board and provincial level to support
initiatives to stimulate parent involvement.
November 17, 2005 - Minister Kennedy presented a
Parent Involvement Policy paper to
the Education Partnership Table for commentary and input from a broad range of
educational stakeholders.
Late in the last school year, Minister Gerard Kennedy
personally met with groups of parents in three locations around the province to
gain additional feedback from parents about the report and its recommendations.

November 6,
2004 - Education Minister Gerard Kennedy announced the creation of the Parent Voice in
Education Project, including the names of 20 parent leaders from across Ontario.
This group was tasked with reporting back to the Minister by February 18,
2005 on how best to establish an independent body that is representative of and
accountable to parents, and capable of providing independent advice to the
Minister. The group was also been asked to advise on methods for
advancing levels of parental involvement in education in Ontario.
The Parent Voice in
Education Project members included representatives from across the province;

Wentworth DSB; Lamar Mason, Ottawa-Carleton DSB; Laurie Philip, Moose Cree
Education Authority; Michele Piccini, Hamilton-Wentworth CDSB, Lesley Schuurs,
Ingersoll; Claude Seguin, Ottawa-Carleton CDSB; Anita Srinivasan, Mississauga;
